Remembering Woodstock*
 (Original: $600)

Peace, Love, Dove.  The Woodstock Music and Art Festival was conducted on a 600 acre farm in Bethel, New York from August 15-18, 1969. It was a peaceful gathering of over 500,000 people and 32 music artists that unknowingly changed the political and social culture during those turbulent times.. My rendering of Woodstock includes a Hippie bus, the towers, Jim Hendrix, John Sebastian, the rainbow, tent city, the mud, bathing in a nearby pond, road sign, tickets and the famous peace dove.  Three days of Peace & Music. Far out man!

Dana Center*
“Quabbin Reservoir Before April 28, 1938”

I used to live in Oakham Mass and became fascinated with the history of Quabbin Reservoir.  One of the interesting facts is four towns were submerged to create Quabbin.  They are Enfiield, Prescott, Greenwich and Dana.  Also 25% of Oakham was taken for Quabbin and also in Rutland. One of my favorite hikes is take a bucolic walk to Dana Center.  The buildings are long gone but the foundations are still there.  Dana center was not submerged but is very close to the shore of Quabbin Reservoir. I wanted to do a watercolor in memory of the four now lost towns and thiis painting is of a Sunday morning sometime in the early 1900's. Bring your binoculars because you might see a bald eagle!

Maple Sugar*
 (Original: $800)

Maple sugaring is still an important part of New England life today and is depicted in this traditional Maple Sugar artwork painting! The maple sugar season normally occurs mid March thru mid April.  On the average it takes 40 gallons of maple sap to make 1 gallon of pure maple syrup.  So, 4 maple trees, 40 to 200 years old, are needed to make one gallon of pure maple syrup.  The boiling of the sap takes place in a sugar house or sugar camp, which is a simple building that shelters boiling operations with a steam vent in the roof and commonly using wood to evaporate and process the maple sap into delicious maple syrup.

Ice Fishing*
 (Original: $800)

Ice Fishing is still an important part of New England life especially as shown by my painting of a  typical day  ice fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH.  Ice fishing is catching fish with lines and fish hooks or spears through an opening in the ice on a frozen body of water. Ice fishermen or anglers may sit on a stool in the opening cut by an ice auger on a frozen lake, or in a heated cabin or ice house shanty on the ice, some with bunks and lots of amenities. Sometimes you might even see a Model T Ford snowmobile beside an ice fishing shanty.

The Old Man of the Mountain

The Old Man of the Mountain, also known as the Great Stone Face or the Profile  was a series of five granite cliff ledges on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire that when viewed from the north, appeared to be the jagged profile of a face. The site is located in the town of Franconia. The first recorded mention of the Old Man was in 1805. It collapsed on May 3, 2003. A non-profit group is building a memorial at ground level near the site.
