Peak House

2004 Medfield Watercolors

My Uncle,John MacGregor, owned at garage in Medfield during the 20's & 30's and want to do a watercolor of his garage. Does anyone have any photos of his garage. Roy Owens book mentioned it was on Janes Avenue behind the town hall and and commonly held two stock cars. These old race cars used to race in Medfield? If you have any information please contact me.
I would like to do a painting of historic places in Medfield such as the old railroad depot, Rocky Woods, Manor Inn etc. Any Ideas!.

EARLY PEAK HOUSE

This watercolor is referenced from a photo taken of the Peak House before it was restored in 1923. My guess this is what the Peak House looked like sometime around 1895.

Note: Closely looking at this photo from the History of Town of Medfield 1887-1925, I noticed a cat sitting on the fence. From now on every new Medfield watercolor will include the peak house cat.

Castle Hill Golf Links

Take a ride down North Street and look closely at the large field now known as the Steeplechase Course currently owned by the Norfolk Hunt Club.. There is a stone chimney, that has been standing there for many years. What was there? Take a close look at this beautiful field and examine the land. What does it look like? The chimney was the fireplace for the Allen's Castle Hill Golf Links club house. Look again at the land and doesn't it look like it was at one time a golf course?

The Peak House, first built in 1651, is the most famous landmark in beautiful Medfield, MA., hometown of the junkyard artist. Mr. Floyd Ours owned a snowplowing company during the mid 20th century in Medfield. His trucks, such as the 1962 Chevrolet in the foreground, were custom pinstriped as portrayed by the artist.

Scarywagon's Junkyard

Many historians have argued for years, why King Philip did not burn down the Peak House. The answer is really simple, this was where he went to find junkyard parts for his mustangs, dodge rams, and colts. Years later, this became the home of Scarywagon, a local country band now living in Nashville, TN.
